Academic Mentorship Program
At the Institute, we believe academic mentorship is a vital intangible necessity that students need to manage their academic career. Let alone students with physical and learning disabilities. Students may find it difficult to find the right person to assist them with their schedule, degree plan, ensuring they graduate on time, and/or graduating period with the challenges of overcoming certain physical or learning obstacles. We believe that by assigning an academic mentor(s), it will help the student's higher educational success.
An Academic Mentor is an individual who provides educational and emotional support, and promotes and builds self-advocacy skills in the student, during their higher educational experience. At least one of the student's Academic Mentors should be located in the City or on the campus where the student is studying. The Academic Mentor can be, but is not limited to the following:
- Guidance Counselor
- Favorite Teacher
- Upper Classman
- Academic Counselor
- Professor in the student's field of study
- Professor outside the student's field of study
- Friend of the family
- Alumni of The DREAM Institute
The student can have more than one Academic Mentor and is encouraged to do so.
